NOTES FROM THE STEWARDS
SATURDAY 19TH AUGUST, 2017.
STIPENDARY STEWARDS: RICHARD HALFHIDE RICHARD FREEMAN WINSTON GOVIA
The Stewards noted that #1 RED HOWLER did not finish and interviewed jockey R. Hernandez in this connection. The Jockey explained that his mount bled badly causing him to pull up his mount. His explanation was confirmed by the Official Veterinarian.
The Official Veterinarian reported that #1 RED HOWLER bled externally indicative of E.I.P.H. and is not to race before 02.09.2017.
Jockey B. Boodramsingh rider of #6 LITTLE JOHN, placed fourth, objected to #4 BIRD MAN, placed third, ridden by J. Reyes for crossing at the top of the straight. Having seen the video replay and heard the riders’ evidence the Stewards found that BIRD MAN was allowed to drift away from the rail entering the home straight, which when combined with #1 UNGUARDED MOMENT, the winner, ridden by N. Abrego moving slightly inward, caused jockey Boodramsingh to check his mount.
The Stewards found that jockey Reyes exhibited lack of control of his mount and fined him $100.00 for the infringement but concluded the result was not affected and allowed the placings to remain unchanged.
#3 EMBRACE THE STORM was slowly away.
The Stewards interviewed trainer Chester Roberts regarding the improved performance of his charge #2 SING SING SING, the winner. The trainer stated that the horse had physical issues that had been improved.
The Stewards noted that #7 SAHARA was slowly away.
The Stewards also noted that #7 FORTUNE TELLER drifted very wide on the first turn.
The Stewards noted that #11 MURANO, ridden by F. Urdaneta, lost ground rapidly and trailed the field from around the 800 metre mark and was virtually pulled up in the home straight. On interview the jockey advised that his mount was moving unsound from the back straight and he eased the filly out of caution. His explanation was noted.
Trainer Bobby Persad was fined $50.00 for incorrect colours on #11 MURANO.
The Stewards noted that #2 NAUGHTY N NICE was very slowly away.
RACE 7 NI L
The Stewards conducted an enquiry into the riding of jockey N. Abrego on #11 LUMINIUM, unplaced, having noted that the horse was ridden tenderly from the 600 metre mark. Upon interview jockey Abrego stated that the horse broke slowly and after a few furlongs it did not have anything more to give. He also stated the horse ran better from the front and this race had more speed than his previous start.
The Stewards also interviewed trainer Harriram Gobin, who stated that his instruction to the jockey was to break the horse well and get to the front. On enquiry, as to whether he was satisfied with the ride, his response was that this race was harder than his previous start.
Upon consideration of the matter the Stewards referred the matter to its Review Committee in accordance with Rule 67 (4).
